Known as MALLARS in the Sangam literature, Kamba Ramayanam, and Periapuranam, Devendrakula Velalars were one of the most ancient farmers in the world. They were the builders of the Kallanai, the first of its kind in the ancient world and was built before 2200 years from now. Devendrakula velalars were the highly civilized MALLARS and their predecessors are historically and literarily are believed to be the great MOOVENDAR namely Cheras, Cholas and Pandyas. They were basically the farmers but they were also the soliders and ultimately the rulers in those ancient days. Their land was called as MARUDHAM and their GOD was Indiran and the most celebrated Indiravizha as sung in the epic Silapathikaram was celebrated by them and even now it is celebrated in Poompuhar in Thanjavur delta and Perur in Coimbatore. Such great community by irony of destiny was conquered by the Telugu speaking Vijayanagara rulers and with the betrayal of the other communities, they were reduced to agricultural slaves and with a vengeance their name MALLARS were also rechristened as PALLARS. The agony of the Devendrakula velalars still continues and it is not known when they will regain the bygone prosperity. As a prelude to unite and to help the Devendrakula velalars to give and take matrimonial relationship, this Devendra Thirumana Mayyam, a segment of Devendra Elakkya Mandram Coimbatore, has come forward to open this website.
